Meet...Clinic Joe!

Tom Overlie and "Joe Clinic" Tom Overlie and "Joe Clinic"
They called him Joe Clinic.

Joseph Fritsch served as the polite and welcoming doorman, and goodwill ambassador of Mayo clinic from 1929 to 1954. Patients and colleagues say they appreciated his warmth, humor and compassion.

I'm told he got the name Joe Clinic because he had the uncanny ability of remembering patients' names. In return, patients would write him thank you notes and letters addressed to "Joe Clinic".

In honor of its 150th anniversary, Mayo Clinic is sharing some of these interesting stories, and opening its doors to parts of the clinic not normally seen by the public.

And nobody wore a bow-tie like "Clinic Joe"!
