Fire destroys barn near Witoka

WITOKA, Minn. (KTTC) -- Fire destroyed a barn near Witoka on Friday afternoon. Ridgeway Fire and Rescue crews responded to the Dan Keller farm at 32492 Country View Drive around 1:45 p.m.

According to the Ridgeway Fire Chief, a neighbor called 911 after witnessing the barn in flames, but by the time emergency crews arrived at the farm the structure had collapsed. A family member who lives in the adjacent house said she had been gone for less than half an hour before receiving a call from the fire department.

The barn was used to store old hay bails and as shelter for cattle. No animals were hurt in the fire. Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire.

"We don't know if it [was] electrical,” said Fire Chief Jim Larson. “I assume it wasn't from the hay because it's been in the barn awhile from what I understand."

The nearby home and adjoining structure were not destroyed in the fire. The fire chief estimated the fire caused thousands of dollars worth of damage.
