Dodge County family homeless after house explosion

KASSON, Minn. (KTTC) -- A Dodge County family is homeless after a house explosion near Kasson.

Dodge County Sheriff Jim Jensen said a construction worker called 911 and crews responded about 9:05 a.m. Thursday to 27270 County Road 34.  Salina Tschida and her two young daughters Alana and Buen were upstairs when the home exploded and made it out safely.

"We were all getting ready to go to the bathroom, and then about 30 seconds after I walked up the steps there was a huge boom.  The whole house shook, and then we bolted out the front door.  Didn't really look around, didn't really grab nothing," said Tschida.

No injuries were reported and neighbors were not evacuated. The Red Cross as well as friends and relatives came by to support the family throughout the day.

"It's pretty awesome to see people you haven't seen in a while just show up, or just kind of friends show up," said Tschida. "It's just the last thing you think would happen to you is done to you and you're just amazed at how much help you have."

The home appears to be a total loss.
