Walz reacts to VA compromise

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KTTC) --  Lawmakers in Washington have reached a bipartisan compromise to reform the VA.

The compromise authorizes the VA to create 27 new medical facilities across the united states and hire more doctors and nurses.

A new VA clinic recently opened in Albert Lea.

The compromise also allows more veterans to see private doctors if they live more than 40 miles from a VA facility and makes it easier to fire incompetent and dishonest employees.

Minnesota Representative Tim Walz says he supports the legislation and released a statement that says in part, "While the bill isn't perfect, it does provide real solutions to help veterans and their families. I urge both chambers of Congress to swiftly pass this bipartisan legislation and send it to the President for his signature. "
