Program helps 140 Rochester families get free school supplies

Posted:
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- The United Way of Olmsted County distributed free school supplies Friday to 140 families at Longfellow Choice Elementary School.

Families with students who are on the reduced lunch program were eligible to take part in the Running Start for School program. In addition to supplies and backpacks, families gained information from the Rochester Public Library and community health programs.

"It means they go to school prepared and with supplies and equipment to learn," said volunteer Carolyn Wall. "And if they don't have the supplies that they need, then it is very likely that their learning will be effected."

Longfellow Choice Elementary School will begin its school year on Monday.
