Jeff Johnson in Rochester for opening of the Republican Victory Center

Posted: Updated:
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Minnesota Republicans are gearing up for the elections this fall.  On Tuesday, Republicans celebrated the opening of their Victory Center in Rochester.

One of the candidates for governor attended the celebration. Jeff Johnson is facing Marty Seifert, Scott Honour and Kurt Zellers in a four way Republican primary this August. Johnson secured the Republican endorsement at this year's convention. He was at the Republican Victory Center in Rochester on Tuesday to drum up support for the primary and for the general election this November.

Johnson said that his main focus is defeating Gov. Mark Dayton in the fall, and he said he is the man to accomplish that because he said he's the most balanced candidate on the ticket.

"For me the argument is that I'm the one who can actually beat Mark Dayton in the fall," Johnson said. "We can't win as Republicans unless we have a united and energized party coming out of that primary, and I think based on the endorsement I'm the only one who can do that in the race."

Johnson is running with Bill Kuisle, a former Rochester representative in the Minnesota House and area farmer.

The primary election will be held on Aug. 12.
