10 Who Make a Difference: Rachel Vogel

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) --  Rachel Vogel is the co-founder of Team Vogel vs. Cancer, a community based group that provides financial and emotional support to families dealing with cancer.

The group was founded by Vogel and her late husband, Joe, who suffered from and ultimately lost his life to colon cancer.

Joe strived to live his last days by "paying it forward" and held the first event back in 2010.  Joe passed away a couple months after the event, but Rachel has spent thousands of hours keeping his dream alive.

"It's in people's blood now," said Vogel. "I think it's only going to get bigger on that level, whether it's for Team Vogel or helping out another organization and it's just that spirit of doing something good for someone else."

Through Rachel's leadership, the group has raised more than $170,000 for families over the past five years, and is providing for 21 families this year which is nearly double what they typically raise for.

The fifth annual Team Vogel vs. Cancer fundraiser took place on Saturday at JC Pavilion in Winona. The event featured a 5K and 1 mile walk/run, silent auction, raffles, as well as softball and cornhole tournaments.
