Flooding in Austin after week of heavy rain

AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -- Rivers and creeks across the state are rising after a week of heavy rain.

Areas of southeastern Minnesota have gotten anywhere from three to seven inches of rain just this week. The Cedar River, Turtle Creek and Dobbins Creek in Austin are all flooded.

Water has spilled into yards and parks flooding picnic shelters and play sets. There is at least one point in the city of Austin where a road has been blocked off due to water that has come up and over the roadway.

With more rain moving through the area Thursday, city engineer Steven Lang said one area is of the most concern. "Turtle Creek is our biggest area of concern," he said. "Flood projection right now is for that to raise another foot and a half. Cedar and Dobbins both look to be crested based on the National Weather Service site."

Lang said they are still monitoring all three bodies of water, and the impact of these floods will depend on how much rain actually falls in the coming hours and days.
