Question from RPD investigators: "Do you know this man?"

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Rochester police are looking for help to identify a man who shot a grocery store employee during an attempted robbery a week ago.  Two surveillance photos have been released, and Capt. John Sherwin says they believe anyone who knows this man well should be able to identify him.

Police say he is around six feet tall, thin and that he appears to be of East African decent.  You can see in this surveillance photo he is also wearing a black hoodie.

The shooting happened last Friday night at Eastwood Grocery.  Rochester police say a man walked into the store and pointed a gun at the owner.  A store employee tackled the gunman and was shot in his shoulder.  The suspect took off in a black car.

Capt. Sherwin noted that improvements in digital technology have really changed the way they look at identifying a suspect, and may be the catalyst to catching this gunman.

"Only really within the last ten years, that we've really seen the improvement in video," said Capt. Sherwin. "Oftentimes it was VCR tape that was recorded over and over and over again and now with the advent of digital technology, it's really quite frequent."
