Beautiful old cars rolling toward Albert Lea for Eddie Cochran Weekend

Posted:
ALBERT LEA, Minn. (KTTC) -- If you've got a hot car made in the 50's or 60's, this might be a really great weekend.  They're closing off the streets in downtown Albert Lea this weekend for the 28th annual Eddie Cochran Weekend.  It's a swap meet for car collectors, a car cruise and more!

It begins Friday evening with a Cruise Inn social at 6 p.m. at Country Inn & Suites and Green Mill's parking lot.

On Saturday morning, Broadway Avenue and Fountain Street will be closed off with registration beginning at 8 a.m. for the car show.   The first 250 cars to register will receive a dash plaque. The top 25 cars will be presented awards at 2:30 p.m. It's a swap meet--there will be cars for sale and even a sale in the grandstand.  The weekend will close with a Car Cruise from downtown starting at 4:30 p.m.

The weekend in Albert Lea also features music by Megaforce Sound & Light Show, a performance by Richie Lee at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, and tours of the remodeled Freeborn County Historical Museum.

Who's Eddie Cochran?  Born in Albert Lea, he was a sharply-dressed rock'n'roll singer well known in the 50's -- and still remembered in his home town in a special way one weekend a year.
