Renovation project begins at History Center of Olmsted County

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Celebrating the past has been the goal of the History Center of Olmsted County, but the organization is taking a big step into the future, all in light of impending DMC development.

Demolition began on Tuesday on a new renovation project that will transform the exhibit hall into a state of the art space for programming and new exhibits.

Some areas will still be on view throughout construction including the temporary exhibit.

Executive Director Lisa Baldus has only been in her position since February, but said the transformation was much-needed.

"We decided we really needed to revamp this place so that we could have more energy in here and grow our membership," said Baldus. "Especially with Destination Medical Center coming up here soon, we wanted to retain our viability here in the community."

The renovation project is set to be completed by the end of August.

To date, the cost of the project has been completely covered by donations from the community.
