Thursdays on First & Third brings summer to Rochester

Posted: Updated:
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Thursday's mid-80s temperatures made for a perfect, clear day to enjoy the first Thursdays on First and Third of the season.

Thousands of folks make their way to Peace Plaza for a weekly party like no other this summer. Finally, it is that sizzling, song-singing, ear-to-ear-smile, summer time of year.

"Today has been really busy, everybody just wants to get outside and enjoy this day," said Tasos Psomas of Pannekoeken Restaurant.

Those lucky enough to pop outside for a few hours, or even just for lunch, packed Peace Plaza for Thursdays on First and Third.

"Especially when you had a long winter like we had, to be out here in the fresh air and seeing everybody," said Psomas.

For out-of-towners, it's a reason to get out of the hospital or the hotel room for a few hours.

"It's a big deal within Mayo Clinic, everybody talks about it and so forth," said one patient.

For locals, it's a celebration of culture, music, and everything in-between.

"I grew up in Rochester," said Eleanore Sutherland. "It's the only part of Rochester that's actually been artsy."

Vendors lined side by side, for eager shoppers and even kids, like Olivia. She just moved here with her family and is taking full advantage of what Rochester has to offer.

"I love Rochester. We just moved here," she said.

Whether it's grabbing a bite or even a brew, or just spending time with family, it's a celebration of Minnesota summer and culture in Rochester.

"This is really the first thing that kind of represented the art culture in Rochester," said Sutherland.
