Primary races for governor's race, Rochester City Council

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- candidates vying for a political future here in Minnesota had to file by the end of the day Tuesday.

Now those primary battles are already taking shape - including the three candidates running for Rochester Mayor..

There will also be primaries in a few other races -- both in Rochester and statewide.

Of the three seats up for election on the Rochester City Council and the eight elections at the Olmsted County level, only one will result in a primary.

That's the race for the Rochester City Council Ward Three seat.

Incumbent Bruce Snyder is running against two challengers: Nick Campion and Vicki Anderson.

On the state level, four republicans will face off in a primary to take on Governor Mark Dayton this November.

Jeff Johnson secured the GOP endorsement at last weekend's state GOP convention but he will run against Kurt Zellers, Scott Honour and Marty Seifert.

Wednesday Seifert stopped in Rochester to make his case for Governor.

"We really believe we are the best candidate to face Mark Dayton this fall, and so what our message is is 'Look, we're all conservative, we're good people but at the end of the day, who is the most unique character who has the best ideas that can take on Mark Dayton?'" he said.

The primary will take place on August 12th with the general election taking place on November 4th.
