Lieutenant governor kicks off fishing season with 2 walleye catches

NISSWA, Minn. (KTTC) -- Gov. Mark Dayton and Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon kicked off the 2014 fishing season one minute after midnight on the waters at the Grand View Lodge on Gull Lake in Nisswa.

Prettner Solon caught the first fish of the opener when she hauled in a walleye about 1 a.m. She caught her second one minutes later.

Dayton is still looking to make his first catch of the 2014 fishing season.

An official sendoff ceremony took place at 8 a.m. at the Gull Lake Docks at Grand View Lodge.
 
The Minnesota DNR expects nearly 500,000 people to head out onto Minnesota's lakes and streams this weekend.
