New effort to encourage Rochester first graders to read over the summer

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) --  Some Rochester first grade students received a special gift Friday morning that could help them have a better appreciation of books.

The Rochester Rotary Risers, in collaboration with the Rochester Public Library and Rochester Public Schools, introduced "My Book Day" on Friday.  First grade students from Riverside Central Elementary School and Gage Elementary School visited Rochester Public Library. Each student received a hard covered book and encouragement to keep reading over the summer.

The Rochester Rotary Risers hope to expand the effort to include first graders across the district.
