Possible GOP presidential candidates to court NRA

Posted:

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Several potential Republican contenders for president will court gun-rights supporters at the NRA's annual convention.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum are set to speak Friday at the convention's leadership forum.

Each possible 2016 candidate is expected to highlight his record of pushing back gun-control measures.

Jindal approved several gun rights bills last year, including one creating penalties for those who knowingly publish the names of gun permit holders.

Rubio opposed tighter gun restrictions after the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.

Pence approved a measure this year that allows guns in locked vehicles on school property.

Santorum thanked the NRA for fighting back after Sandy Hook when, he contends, "freedom was under assault."
