Kasson's City Council approves contracts, plans to sign with Oppidan, Inc.

KASSON, Minn.(KTTC) -- Kasson's City Council is ready to sign with national property development firm Oppidan, Inc. to bring in a Shopko.

On Wednesday, the council approved six contracts for a development in Lions Park. The development firm plans to build on Mantorville Avenue and lease the building to Shopko.

"The biggest thing is we've been trying for 10 years at least to solve some of our flooding problem and this will help us to do that at Oppidan's expense," said Kasson Community Development Director, Mike Martin.

The contracts detail the city's plans to enlarge ponds within the park which will help with runoff and save money.

A new 17 acre park adjacent to the existing four acre park will be built from the money received from Oppidan, Inc.  It will include a skate park, and biking and walking trails.

The contracts also outline requirements for private development, business subsidies, bonds and other property purchase agreements.
