Public works truck falls into sinkhole in southwest Rochester

Posted: Updated:
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- It was a frightening moment Wednesday afternoon for two Rochester Public Works' employees when their truck fell into a sinkhole in southwest Rochester.

The crew was repairing a water main break at the intersection of 6th Street Southwest and 20th Avenue Southwest about 1:30 p.m.

The public works department's "jet truck for hydrostatic cleaning," which weighs more than 10,000 pounds, was backing up when the back tire sank into the street.

Rochester Public Works drained the truck of its water in order to move it out of the sinkhole.

Rochester Public Utilities shut off water to the area about 2:30 p.m.

No one was injured.
