ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- If you had tickets for a summer escape to Arizona on Allegiant Airlines, you're out of luck. The airline announced Tuesday night it is ending all flight service from Rochester International Airport next month.
The last day of service will be May 14. Customers with reservations beyond that date will be contacted directly by the airline for a full-refund. Allegiant launched direct service from Rochester to Phoenix / Mesa in Nov. 2012. While that service is about to come to an end, Airport Director Marty Lenss said we could possibly see Allegiant in Rochester again one day.
"Allegiant's a great carrier and we'll continue to keep relationships strong with Allegiant, I think that makes sense long term for the community and for the region. They have some great destinations like Orlando, Phoenix, and Vegas so we'll continue to explore those markets with them going forward in the future," Lenss said.
Lenns said he will also explore new market opportunities with Delta and American. Before Allegiant provided flights to the Phoenix area, it offered direct flights from Rochester to Las Vegas. That service began in June 2007 and ended in Feb. 2010.
