MILWAUKEE (AP) - Law enforcement officials in Milwaukee say 13 people have been arrested following a dogfighting investigation, and they are looking for an additional suspect.
Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm announced the arrests at a Thursday news conference attended by multiple law enforcement agencies.
He says 22 dogs were rescued Thursday morning when six search warrants were executed. The body of one dog was recovered.
Chisholm says the dogs had injuries from fighting and a dogfighting pit was found in the basement of one home.
He says two people have been charged in state court, and he expects at least 12 federal cases to result from the investigation.
