Hundreds participate in first Dover-Eyota Color Run

EYOTA, Minn. (KTTC)--Spring has sprung and runners in Eyota added some color to it on Saturday.  Hundreds participated in Dover-Eyota's first Color Run at the Elementary school.

"I'm a fair-weather runner...I was worried that today would be too cold but it's actually not bad," said Tena Green of Eyota.

As runners made their way through the 5K and 2.5K courses, colored powder was thrown overhead to coat participant's white t-shirts.

"Start out short and easy," said Janelle Grant of Dover.  "This is only two miles so it will be easy to do."

Many families from the Dover-Eyota Elementary school came out to support the school's winter running club, the P.E. Department and the girls' soccer team.

"Everybody pretty much knows each other," said James Grimaldi of Rochester.  "It's a color run that raises awareness for a small community and I think that's what makes it fun and special."

"It's about promoting health but it really also is about spending time on a nice day with your mom, with your dad and with your friends," said Brad Hak, Dover-Eyota's Health Instructor and event organizer.

The money raised will be used to help promote other physical activities for the school's students, like sending student runners to meets across the region.
