Worker at Strongwell Chatfield Division hurt on the job

CHATFIELD, Minn. (KTTC) --  An on-the-job accident in Chatfield late Thursday morning sent one man to the Mayo Clinic Saint Marys emergency room with a hand injury.

The man's fingers on one hand were penetrated by fiberglass at the Strongwell Chatfield Division plant at 1610 Highway 52 South.

Chatfield Police Officer Grace McCallum responded to the scene about 11:30 and said his hand was wrapped and he was able to walk to the ambulance.

State Dept. of Labor spokesman James Honerman said a records search showed there have been no OSHA violations at the plant in Chatfield in the past five years, and no citations during a routine surprise inspection on February 21, 2013.  The OSHA inspection report notes that workers in the non-union plant work with laminated plastics plate, sheet and profile shape manufacturing processes.  It's not known what kind of hand protection the worker was using at the Strongwell Corp. plant, though hand protection is required by OSHA regulations in certain work environments.
