ROSE CREEK, Minn. (KTTC) -- The Rose Creek city clerk was ousted by the City Council Monday night following multiple felony theft charges filed against her.
In a unanimous vote at Monday's meeting, Rose Creek City Council voted to remove City Clerk Janet Marie Nelsen from her position.
Nelsen is accused of swindling money from the Rose Creek Fire Department, which covers Windom, Marshall, and Nevada townships.
Nelsen's removal follows a petition filed by a group of so-called "concerned citizens" requesting to replace the City Clerk.
The petition had approximately 100 signatures on it.
Rose Creek Fire Department Chief Fred Ulven said the allegations came as a shock to the community.
"Angry and surprised, both ways. Everybody knows Jan. Just didn't expect it," Ulven said.
There was also a request presented for a fraudulent audit of the City of Rose Creek, but the matter was not discussed.
