School leaders gather to prepare crisis plans

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- Eleven school districts from southeast Minnesota met on Tuesday at Southeast Service Cooperative in Rochester to make sure their crisis plans are ready.

By law every school is required to have a crisis plan, but this workshop helped school leaders develop more efficient emergency procedures.

The School Safety and Security Forum focused on revamping current crisis plans and identifying potential threats.

"Of course Sandy Hook comes to mind these days that's what everyone chats about, but horrible. And no one wants that to happen in their school and they just want to make sure that they're prepared. Even beyond responding to an incident they want to be there and make sure that it doesn't happen in the first place," said Nancy Lageson, director of the Minnesota School Safety Center.

Lageson went on to say that many school district leaders feel they are prepared for a crisis situation, and that student safety is the top concern.
