Residents still feeling the post-storm effects in Kasson

KASSON, Minn. (KTTC) -- As we begin to dip back down to double-digit temperatures below zero, communities are asking residents to double-check their vent pipes and utility meters.

At Windsor Court Mobile Home Community in Kasson, residents have been clearing around their gas meters in an effort to keep the ice and snow from shutting down their furnaces.

"One of the main things they should be looking for is snow built up around the exhaust for their furnace because if that gets plugged it could cause carbon monoxide in their home," said Frank Draeger of Windsor Court Mobile Home Community.

Dryer vents have been shoveled out to allow the moisture to escape homes as well.

The heavy snow from last week is also wreaking havoc on rooftops. Clearing the top of your home not only prevents the roof from collapsing and having moisture problems, but also protects you from a serious gas threat.
