DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A former Iowa jail guard accused of killing his pregnant wife has appealed a district court judge's bond to the Iowa Supreme Court in hopes of being released before his third trial begins.
Twenty-three-year-old Seth Techel remains jailed on a $750,000 cash-only bond. He is charged with first-degree murder in the May 2012 death of his wife, Lisa Techel. She was found shot in the couple's Agency home in southeast Iowa. Seth Techel also is charged in the death of the unborn child.
Two trials ended in mistrial after juries could not reach a unanimous verdict.
Techel's attorney, Jake Feuerhelm (FIRE-helm), says he's asked the Supreme Court for an expedited review of the high bond that keeps Techel jailed.
Techel's third trial is set to begin July 14th in Davenport.
