MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT, Iowa (AP) - A 20-year-old man is suspected of first degree murder in connection with a fatal stabbing on the Meskwaki Settlement in central Iowa.
Officers found 17-year-old Severn Jefferson unresponsive when they went to a home on the settlement shortly before 5 p.m. Monday.
Jefferson had been stabbed in the chest, and he died. An autopsy is planned.
Authorities arrested Jonathan Youngbear early Tuesday morning. He does not yet have an attorney.
It's the second deadly incident on the settlement this month. Twenty-five-year-old Gordon Lasley Jr. is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the slaying of his parents. The bodies of Kim and Gordon Lasley Sr. were found in their home on Feb. 5.
The Sac and Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa own the Meskwaki Settlement land.
