AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -- Austin police arrested a man Monday morning after surrounding his apartment complex for 13-hours.
The incident started at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday with an argument between a man and a woman at Park Place Commons apartments in the 200 block of 11th Avenue Northwest across from the SPAM Museum.
According to the Austin Police Department, the woman left and called police. She told officers the man was intoxicated and possibly armed with a gun. Police evacuated neighboring apartments as they attempted to make contact with the man.
By 3 a.m. Monday, officers said they were still trying to make contact with a possibly armed man inside the apartment.
Officers finally entered the man's apartment about 10 a.m. Monday and arrested him. Police recovered four handguns from the man's apartment.
Latasha Beighely, who lives in a nearby apartment, said she had a difficult time sleeping through the night.
"I could not sleep at all, I was wondering about my safety and myself even just being in that building," she said. "And I just had a baby and I didn't know if he would come over to my building because he knows the codes to all the buildings and he has the master key."
After police arrested the man, people who were evacuated from neighboring apartments were allowed to go back home.
