AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -- The Mower County Jail averages about 60-65 inmates a week, but a flurry of activity over the last few weeks is creating some jailhouse blues.
According to Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi, the jail has been holding roughly 85 people each day over the last few weeks. That's only three people shy of the current capacity of 88.
Amazi said the jail can hold up to 128 people but would require hiring five more staff members. There are part-time workers in place if need be.
Amazi said the uptick in inmates is due to an increase in arrest warrants for people out on probation who aren't staying out of trouble.
The jail can handle a few more women, but the number of male inmates is near capacity.
