LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) The Central Red Raiders clinched a share of the MVC title with a 53-47 win over Aquinas Thursday night at Aquinas.
Freshman Kobe King led the way for Central with 19 points.
Ethan Haberman had 13.
Central trailed 23-17 at the half before getting off to a fast start in the third quarter.
Jerrod Ambrose scored 8 straight points for Central to start the third quarter.
Aquinas pulled to within two on Parker Weber's three-point play with under a minute to go to make it 47-45.
But Central finished it off from the free throw line.
It's the Red Raiders first MVC title since 1998.
"This is a huge win especially because we came off a rough game off Sparta. To come out and play like this and to play well and get them on their own court, it was big," said King.
"We just wanted to come out and play. Our goal was to get to 1-0 tonight against a great Aquinas team. I was really proud of our guys to find a way tonight," said Central head coach Todd Fergot.
