MELROSE, Wis. (WXOW) Another area track star is running down a division one scholarship.
Melrose-Mindoro's Alex Hatlevig signed his letter of intent to compete at UW-Milwaukee Tuesday.
Hatlevig put his signature on the bottom line Tuesday at a ceremony at the school.
He's coming off a sensational junior year in which he won the 100 and 200 meter dash in division 3 at the state meet.
He also helped the Mustangs 1600M relay take second.
And with Tuesday's signing, he's earned another place in school history.
When I heard that I thought wow, I never knew I was going to be the first D-1 athlete at Mel-Min in 30 years," Hatlevig said.
"It's great to know that I'm that person, it was exciting knowing that I was a potential D-1 athlete I never thought when I was little or a freshman that oh maybe track and field will be a good thing to do in college. I never thought I would go D-1 especially at a school as big as UW-Milwaukee. It's going to be a big change. I'm used to just a little town and know almost everybody in the town and go to a big city it's going to be a whole different atmosphere. I'm not going to know anyone when I go there, no one from my school is going to UW-Milwaukee so it's going to be a whole different experience."
