Update: Residents urged to keep water on

Posted:
TREMPEALEAU, Wis. (WXOW) – UPDATE: Communities are urging residents to leave their water running in one faucet in their home due to the potential for frozen pipes.

Trempealeau, Coon Valley, Sparta, Blair, Westby, New Lisbon, Melrose, Galesville, Cashton, Melvina, Mindoro, Viroqua, Viola, Chaseburg and Stoddard have issued the advisory in the past several days.  Warrens is also on the list of municipalities making the request.

City Officials said leave a pencil width stream of water running from at least one pipe.

Last week, Holmen sent a letter to about 90 residents in older homes and businesses suggesting they run a thin stream of water from one faucet.  Director of Public Works Dean Olson said it was only for that one area of Holmen, and not the entire village.

If you notice discolored water coming out of a your faucets, officials said you might have a frozen pipe. If you fear your pipes are frozen you can contact your water utility.
