Skiers turn out for ski by candlelight

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Dozens of cross country skiers participated in Quarry Hill Nature Center's annual ski by candlelight event on Friday.

Skiers experienced the winter season in a new light by treading through nearly a mile of snow-covered trails lit only by candles and the moonlight.

The WinterFest event is open to people of all ages and experience levels. For a fee, participants can rent ski equipment.

"The weather is finally to the point that it's not so freezing that you can't go out. It's just a nice night to get out and enjoy the snow," said Alison Christianson of Rochester.  "That's the nice thing about being a Minnesotan, once you get brave enough to stand the cold you can go out and have some fun."

According to the nature center, the event will be open on Valentines Day, one of the busiest days of the event.
