ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Mayo Clinic announced Tuesday that it will open a 20,000-square-foot sports medicine facility in Block E in downtown Minneapolis.
Block E, located at 600 Hennepin, will be renamed "Mayo Clinic Square." The Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center will occupy the third floor and include health programs for elite and amateur athletes and active adults.
The sports medicine facility is part of a collaboration with the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Lynx. The teams announced plans in November to open a practice facility and new headquarters, which will also occupy the third floor in Mayo Clinic Square.
The sports medicine facility will be similar to the new 25,000-square-foot Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center expansion at Mayo's Dan Abraham Healthy Living Center in Rochester.
NewsCenter's Courtney Sturgeon was at the announcement Tuesday afternoon in Minneapolis. Coming up on the NewsCenter at 6, we'll explain how the new facility will help amateur and pro athletes in Minnesota.
