Keri Herman: Bloomington native

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (KTTC) -- Another Olympic athlete with ties to Minnesota is Keri Herman, a Bloomington native representing Team USA in slopestyle skiing, one of the most popular events at the Winter X Games which will be making its debut at the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

"She's a doer, she didn't hang around watching TV, she's a doer," Keri Herman's mother, Diana Herman, told KTTC.

And all that doing has taken Keri Herman from the X-Games to the World Cup, and straight to the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

"The fact that she's in it, I mean, I've got chills all over me," Herman said.

From a young age, Keri was a daredevil. Her mom recalls finding pictures of a young Keri jumping off various pieces of furniture in their living room.

"That's how long ago it was, because we developed a roll of film. We were going through the pictures and we went, 'What is this?' And they're taking pictures of each other jumping off of here and onto the couch down below," Herman said.

While active in sports and activities very young, Keri didn't get into skiing until she was in college. She taught herself a sport that features skiing on rails getting the most air, and other intense tricks. At that time slopestyle had no competitions, but it has now evolved into a worldwide take your breath away spectacle for those watching and a thrill for those doing.
