ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Our recent extreme cold weather has taken its toll on everything from our cars to our heating bills, and now the bitter temperatures are causing problems for one device many use all day long: your smart phone.
Rochester's Fast Phone Repair has fixed countless cell phones damaged by the cold weather.
The most common problems include broken screens and water damaged devices which can cost hundreds of dollars to fix.
The cold makes phones more fragile, decreases battery life, and can slow down the speed of some touch screens.
Moving a cell phone quickly from the outdoors to indoors can also cause moisture to build up inside the screen.
"It can actually trip the water damage indicators on your device, not only voiding the warranty, but it can actually ruin the device because you don't want any moisture in your phone, obviously," said James Gorecki, owner of Fast Phone Repair.
Gorecki recommends keeping your cell phone in your coat or pants pocket to prevent damage when outdoors in our extreme cold weather.
