How to avoid dangerous icicle build-up

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KXLT) --  While Sunday's mild temperatures certainly were a welcome change from last week's bone-chilling weather, a deep freeze followed by a slight warm-up can lead to the build-up of dangerous ice and icicles around your home or office.

Even though they may be pretty to look at, experts advise to keep your distance from hanging icicles to avoid getting hit.

To stop the build-up of dangerous icicles around your home, the National Weather Service advises keeping your home's roof and storm drains clear of snow and debris so that water can drain quickly.

NWS also suggests adding extra insulation in your attic to prevent heat from escaping your home which can melt snow and cause icicles to form.
