Jackson Co. (WQOW) - Just days before Christmas, fire causes extensive damage to a western Wisconsin church.
The fire broke out Saturday afternoon at the Wrightsville Chapel, between Merrillan and Black River Falls. Rev. Terry Marg says several members of the congregation were installing a used fuel oil furnace when something went wrong and it caught fire.
The fire damaged a ceiling and a wall, but Rev. Marg says the building did not have much structural damage. However, he says they lost pretty much everything inside to heat and smoke damage, including hymnals and bibles, church records, and priceless historic pictures up to 150 years old. On top of that, they had no insurance.
Rev. Marg says Christmas Eve services have been canceled. He says they hope to come up with a plan on how to move forward, after the first of the year.
