Furnace malfunction causes minor house fire in La Crescent

LA CRESCENT, Minnesota (WXOW) -- Fire crews were called to a home on County Highway 25 approximately 9 a.m. Tuesday after a report of a smoke-filled basement.

Fire Chief John Meyer said a malfunctioning oil furnace caused a small fire and parts of the basement, as well as sections of the home's upper floors, to fill with smoke.

Meyer said firefighters were able to put out the small blaze "within a matter of minutes" after arriving on the scene.

He said the house sustained minor smoke damage.
