Christmas in the County comes to Austin

AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -- Christmas in the County got underway Friday in Austin.

The event took place at the Mower County Historical Society. It's a chance for the community to get their fill of Christmas cookies and holiday celebration while supporting the upkeep of the historical society.

All types of tasty treats and desserts lined the tables as people showed up one after another for the annual bake sale.

"Yeah, there were people lined up in the hallway at about 2 o'clock until 2:30 all the way down our hallway waiting to get in at 3 o'clock," said Dustin Heckman of the Mower County Historical Society.  "We held strict to 3 o'clock to let people in, but there was a few people here already ahead of time ready to go."

A silent auction was held in another room, giving residents a chance to get some holiday gift bundles.

The event continues on Saturday with sleigh and wagon rides around the fair grounds. Santa and Mrs. Claus will also make an appearance. Festivities will begin at 3 p.m.
