ALBERT LEA, Minn. (KTTC) -- A state fire marshal is in Albert Lea today to find out what caused a fire that destroyed a family's home.
Albert Lea Township Fire Department Chief Chuck Karl says the fire at the home, located at 8261 U.S. 69 near Pickerel Lake, likely started from a wood stove in the basement.
Firefighters arrived on scene at 9 a.m. Thursday morning, and dealt with bitter cold temperatures and strong winds as they battled the fire.
Complicating matters was the fact that nearly everything the water touched turned to ice within minutes. The weight of that ice then caused parts of the roof to cave in.
Crews from at least three fire departments responded. No one was hurt in the blaze.
