Beware of thin ice before deep freeze

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- While our recent warmer weather may be nice for getting your homes ready for the holidays, officials say you may want to think twice about other winter activities such as ice skating or ice fishing.

Although we have been seeing some colder temperatures lately, state experts say to beware of thin ice before venturing out onto lakes and ponds.

The Minnesota DNR suggests there be at least four inches of frozen ice on larger bodies of water before you participate in any on-foot ice activities on frozen water.

They say this typically requires up to four consecutive days of sub zero temperatures for most large ponds.
