Mayowood Mansion Christmas Tours draw visitors in the droves

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- The Mayowood Mansion Christmas tours have been a tradition for over 30 years, but the home turned museum never seems to lose its novelty and luster with each passing holiday season.

Visitors come from all over the country and the world to walk through Mayowood to feast their eyes on the Christmas adornments made special to each room by a team of designers.

"We furnish the garland or the trees or the wreaths but then everything else is their own, and they must work around the collection. The buffet, the tables, the chairs they're all ours, the only thing we take out are maybe artificial flowers but everything else is theirs," said tour coordinator Barbara Delane.

Visitors come for reasons all their own, whether it be for a glimpse of history or the Christmas trees.

"I grew up here in Rochester and I worked here actually when I was in college and now I work at a museum, so this place really helped inspire my career, and so we bring, I take every opportunity I can get to take our kids to historic places,"said visitor, Jennifer Madden.

The home has a host of stories laying within these walls, yet all who walk through this iconic home leave with some tales of their own.
