Byron Middle School raises holiday funds with 'Penny War'

Posted:

BYRON, Minn. (KTTC) -- It will be a merrier Christmas for many families, thanks to a friendly competition at Byron Middle School.

School officials say the totals are in from this year's Penny War.

The Penny War is a holiday fundraiser that has been going on for 8 days now. School officials say the event raises funds to buy gifts for needy families in the area.

The school hosted "fun" days like Double Dollar Day and Reverse Day, which officials said helped get students even more excited about raising money.

And, they're proud to announce that those pennies really added up!

Students raised more than $1,800 dollars, all to help local families.
