Medicaid special session called by Governor Walker

MADISON (WKOW) -- The state legislature's special session on Medicaid is set.

Governor Walker issued an executive order Friday calling for lawmakers to convene the Monday after Thanksgiving; that'll be December 2.

Nearly 100,000 people in the state will lose their health care coverage January 1 and many of them haven't been able to sign up for a new health plan because of problems with the federal exchange.

The governor wants to give them three more months of coverage on their current plans.

Meantime, anyone wanting to enroll through the federal exchange has another week to do it.

The Obama administration extended the deadline from December 15 to December 23.

If you sign up by that date, you'll get coverage by January 1.
