Stewartville Fire Department prepares for move in

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC)--The Stewartville Fire Department is preparing to move into the new fire hall.

In March, residents turned out to cast their ballot in favor of a new fire hall.  Voters approved using 1.8 million dollars in general obligation bonds to fund the project.  After gaining support from the community and many months of construction the new facility is nearing completion.

"We're all excited about moving into it and I'm just thankful that we've got this city and the city of Stewartville behind us," said Stewartville Fire Chief, Steve Wolf.

The building designs included some essentials-like additional garage space.

"Before we had two trucks were in the same space where we met and would hang out," said Wolf.  "Not a good situation."

The fire department had a lot of say in how they wanted the new space to function.  Storage space used to be a problem for the fire fighters, but now dozens of shelving units will be available to the crews.  The fire chief says the improved layout will keep things running smoothly.

"We should be able to respond quickly, if not quicker, than before. We've got everything we need," said Wolf.

The Fire Department will be moving into the new space by the first week of December.
