ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- A very generous donation was given to Channel One Food Bank Tuesday morning, just in time for Thanksgiving.
Rochester's Hy-Vee stores donated 500 frozen turkeys to the food shelf Tuesday, a donation, organizers say, that's equivalent of 2-and-a-half tons of turkey. all designed to help feed members of our community who need help this holiday season.
The donation is part of Hy-Vee's 10-day, 10-city, 10,000 turkey effort to donate frozen turkeys to local food banks. Organizers say turkeys will also be delivered throughout Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Kansas and Missouri.
"We are starting to distribute these turkeys today. So we are really excited about the gift and what this means to the food shelf families that come to us for assistance," Jennifer Woodford, Channel One executive director, said.
Officials went on to say that the donation of these turkeys comes at a time that is traditionally high in need for food bank. "Channel One is grateful for Hy-Vee's generous spirit and dedication to our community." Woodford said. "We are thrilled to have this wonderful turkey donation available for our food shelf clients the week before Thanksgiving."
She said Tuesday's donation will help to ensure that Channel One continues to meet the growing demand and provide hope to families and individuals.
