Baraboo, WISCONSIN (WXOW) The Logan Rangers bid to make it to their first ever state championship game came up short Friday night.
Monona Grove beat Logan 28-14 in the division 3 semifinals in Baraboo.
The Silver Eagles jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first half, scoring twice on Tyler Blang runs.
Then on the final play of the first half Mitch Schreiner connected with Aric Elmore on a 20 yard touchdown pass to put Logan on the board.
The Rangers cut that lead to 21-14 after Elmore scored on a run with just over 5 minutes left in the game.
But the Logan defense wasn't able to come up with a stop and Tayson Young put the game away with a touchdown run for Monona Grove.
"Their size wore us down. Their speed was overwhelming early and then we did a better job later in the game. Just so proud. These kids made history this year. So proud of their effort. They really did leave it all on the field here tonight. Monona Grove was a heck of a team. I'm just proud of their effort," said head coach Casey Knoble.
The Rangers season ends with a 10-3 record.
