Volunteers kick off annual fundraiser by "Rocking the Bell"

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Dozens of volunteers kicked off the 'Rock the Red Kettle' campaign at many businesses throughout the community Saturday.

Bells could be heard across Olmsted County as officials kicked-off the iconic fundraiser benefiting the Salvation Army.

Each Red Kettle location has a group sponsor to entertain those shopping for the holiday season.

Many local businesses and organizations are participating in the event.  Mayo Clinic President and CEO, Dr. John Noseworthy and his family were supporting the charity by "rocking the bell" at Shopko North.

"It's the launch of the Salvation Army Christmas campaign, we all hear the bells and we think Christmas and we feel generous and support the community so it's a great event," Noseworthy said.

You can donate to Rock the Red Kettle by visiting any of the dozens of locations around town.

Last year, volunteers helped raise nearly $360,000 for Salvation Army.

This year they hope to reach their goal of collecting $375,000 for the charity.
