ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) -- A Minnesota teenager has pleaded guilty in the death of a college student who was punched in a St. Cloud alley.

Eighteen-year-old Jesse Smithers of Sauk Rapids pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder.

The St. Cloud Times (http://on.sctimes.com/1hSW3WP ) reports Smithers is expected to receive a 10-year prison sentence. A first-degree manslaughter charge was dismissed as part of the plea.

A complaint accuses Smithers of jumping out of a car on Sept. 20, 2012, and punching 20-year-old Colton Gleason once in the face.

Gleason fell backward and hit his head. The Minnesota State University, Mankato student later died.

Smithers was 17 at the time of the incident and was certified to stand trial as an adult. His trial was scheduled to begin next week.
